Madonna Defends Adoption

Originally scheduled to chat about her new children’s book, Madonna will probably spend a lot more time talking about raising Malawi orphans and her adoption of David Banda when she visits the show on Wednesday.

2006 Black Movie Awards

At Sunday’s prestigious Hollywood event, O presented legendary groundbreaking actress Cicely Tyson with its prestigious Distinguished Career Achievement award.

Ms. Tyson, the inspiration for the Legends Ball, recognized both the strides made by Black actresses and the lingering lack of opportunities for them.

“To have an actress of the caliber of Angela Bassett not working in the manner as she should be is disheartening. There is a first class of trained competent actresses out there who are still not on the par of any of our male actors, like Denzel Washington, not to mention they don’t receive the same financial benefits for work.”

Yesterday in Durham, North Carolina, S commemorated the 108th anniversary of N.C. Mutual Life Insurance, a historic Black-owned business. A native of the state, he’s a descendant of one of the co-founders and his father was an N.C. Mutual agent.
